Hi.

Welcome to my blog! I hope you find a little light here!

A Stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea

A Stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea

This past August I was in the San Francisco Bay Area for work, and my husband (Jon) came to visit me for the weekend. We headed down south for a quick overnight stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea. It quickly became one of my new favorite places.

OUR STAY | THE GETAWAY

We had a lovely stay at The Getaway, a beautifully renovated boutique hotel located downtown on Ocean Ave. They have gorgeous rooms and a delicious complimentary breakfast. In the evenings they have bubbly and wine. Thank you, ma’am. With only 34 rooms and a kind staff, I hope to stay here again one day.

Carmel is full of cute little shops, art galleries, wine tasting rooms and restaurants. Every corner seems to have a little hidden ally way. You could spend hours just walking around this storybook village.

Carmel Plaza is home to over 35 stores and restaurants. It is located just steps from The Getaway. Most of the stores here are a bit ritzy but there is a cute coffee shop and a brewery. We stopped at the brewery, Yeast of Eden, before dinner at Pescadero. The fish tacos were delicious and Negra Modelo was on tap!

Other popular food spots include La Bicyclette, Cultura, Brophy’s Tavern and Village Corner.

STATIONAERY Jon and I wandered here early in the morning for coffee + chai to take on our morning stroll. I made fast friends with one of the girls there and she told me some great spots to check out in Big Sur. I’m all for places with kind people that make you feel like friends. There isn’t enough of that in this world. The chai was amazing and I hear the food is incredible. We will definitely share a meal here next time.

FOLKTALE WINERY A short drive from downtown Carmel is this charming winery. We enjoyed a few hours here sipping wine and wandering around the stunning property. We had a flight of six of their wonderful wines and shared a bread platter. Our wine educator was incredibly kind and took us on a mini private tour around the property to see the wine barrel room and vineyard. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the 2016 Folktale Chalone Pinot Noir to open when we are chosen by an Expectant Mom.

Dress is from Zara. Other accessories are linked above.

A short walk from The Getaway, at the bottom of Ocean Avenue, is Carmel’s beautiful beach with gorgeous Monterey Cypress trees. And no trip to Camel would be complete without a drive down to Big Sur… more on that in my next post.

I really can’t say enough good things about Carmel-by-the-Sea. It truly is right out of a fairytale. It has been on my bucket list for such a long time. I am so thankful that I was able to experience it with Jon this past August while working in California.

Love + Light, Laurie
